Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana Designer History:
Domenico Dolce was born in 1958, near Palermo, Sicily and Stefano Gabbana was born in 1962 Milan, Italy and are well-known as the style and design duet for helping make "stars look like stars". Their sexy designs are normally noticed as the preference of Isabella Rossellini, Nicole Kidman, Demi Moore and Madonna, for whom they designed many pieces and the now popular "Kylie Minogue" homage T-shirt. They even designed the outfits for Madonna's Girlie Show in 1993, and even dressed Whitney Houston for her 1999 expedition.

Partners equally in life and business, the two connected when working as colleagues in a studio in Milan. Sharing a passion for the extraordinaire, they built their brand jointly in 1985, when the planners of the Milano Collezioni asked them to participate in a fashion show to introduce "New Talents". The next year, they introduced their first very own designed women's ready-to-wear fashion display. From then on, they have released menswear and a collection of signature fragrances, and started shops in Italy, Hong Kong, Japan and in 1999, in London with the London parlor, created by British architect David Chipperfield, is evidence to the designers passion of combining their personal Mediterranean nature with English extravagance.

Initially influenced by a diverse range of, slender shop Bohemia, Dolce & Gabbana's heavily colored, animal styles have been referred to as "haute hippydom" drawing ideas specifically from Italy's renowned film history. "When we design it's like a movie. We think of a story and we design the clothes to go with It." states Domenico Dolce. They state to be far more troubled in relation to making the finest, most excellent outfits than igniting new styles, once even acknowledging that they probably would not mind if their sole impact to design history was a simple black bra.

D&G brands involve underwear-as-outerwear like corsets and bra fastenings, amazingly printed and padded jackets even gangster boss pinstripe suits. On the other hand their fetish-meets-femininity selections are usually supported by impressive advertising campaigns, such as the black-and-white La Sicilia, presenting model Marpessa pictured by Ferdinando Scianna in 1987. Nevertheless essentially they are recognized for making women seem, very plainly, devastatingly sexy. "They find their way out of any black dress, any buttoned-up blouse. The first piece of theirs I wore was a white shirt, very chaste, but cut to make my breasts look as if they were bursting out of it." says Rossellini.

After referred to as the "Gilbert and George of Italian fashion", Dolce and Gabbana brought to their fashion passion a musical twist in 1996, by producing their own single, in which they intoned the phrase "D&G is love" with the track of techno beat. More recent to the design and style arena compared to various other leading Italian fashion houses such as Armani and Versace, the two admit that fortune has played out its portion in their remarkable success. By 1997, their company documented earnings of GBP£400-million, motivating both creators to state that they intended to stop working by the age of 40 – luckily a promise they gladly never followed.

At present with all the development and expansion that has unfolded the company has turned into one of the leading global luxury design houses, with over 100 stores globally and more than 2,000 employees, D&G has escalated into a worldwide fashion giant.
