Guerlain Shalimar Millesime Tonka - Product Description Overview
Shalimar Millesime Tonka will be released as tribute to Tonka bean, one of Guerlain's favorite six fragrance materials "Guerlinade", created by fifth-generation perfumers Thierry Wasser and Delphine Jelk. Shalimar is the world's first oriental fragrance created in 1925 by Jacques Guerlain, the brand's third generation perfumer.
Bitter almond and bergamot are used to make the ambery scent stand out in the top note. The rich use of Tonka bean absolute, which brings out the bittersweet almond scent, adds an accent to the Shalimar scent. Tonka bean also contains coumarin, which makes up the fougere scent often used in men’s fragrances, adding a masculine dimension to the feminine fragrance.
The heart note is layered with floral notes of rose absolute, powdery and iris, and creates a contrast by wrapping the fougere accord with fresh jasmine sambac. It is said that the tension created by the gourmand scent of fougere and tonka bean creates a modern impression. In addition to tonka bean, vanilla planifolia and tincture are used as rare ingredients unique to Guerlain.
The bottle also has a design that pays homage to Shalimar's original bottle from 1925. The original bottle design was inspired by the fountain in the Shalimar garden, and the bat-shaped label, which is known as the symbol of Shalimar, was finished in black, the color of Tonka bean.
