Guerlain The Bee Bottle by Begum Khan 2021

For this seasons Bee Bottle, the young designer has placed a connection between past and future; between East and West. A creative experience between two worlds. For Guerlain, Begüm Khan has created a masterpiece all in gold-plated bronze and encrusted with pavé gemstones; an encounter between East and West.

As noted by the designer: "Since embarking on this collaboration, I have been constantly amazed by the synergies between myself, a young Turkish designer, and the centuries-old house of Guerlain."

The universe of Begum Khan

Jewellery designer Begüm Kiroglu was raised in a family of Ottoman art collectors. Influenced by the East and by the richness of Istanbul, she made the decision to establish jewellery brand in 2012. With a generously fanciful creativity, she designs works of art that re interpret nature, flora and fauna, forming a rich anthology of beasts and floral symbols.

Source of Creativity for this Marvel is The Bee

The concept of the bee is very special to Guerlain, as a source of creativity, an ornamental design and the hallmark of an environmental dedication.

A source of inspiration for Begüm Khan: "Bees have always intrigued me: they are a common sight, buzzing all around us, and yet their beauty is often overlooked. They are fragile yet strong, and there is something inspiring in this dichotomy. Bees are also synonymous with Guerlain, so they were a natural choice for our collaboration." notes the designer.

Transformation of the Bee Bottle

Begüm Khan chose to create a jewel including aspects that connect with the West and the world of Guerlain. In the fanciful design, an imperial bee, the Guerlain symbol, escapes from its whimsical and magnificent world to land for a short lived instant on the bottle, surrounded by four fascinating flowers.

Each piece is hand crafted by Turkish artisans in a historic workshop near the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, through a labour of love that imbues every bottle with its own individuality and soul.

An excellent finesse

Created in Istanbul workshop, the bronze-set decorating frill is plated with 24-karat gold and paved with approximately 6,500 coloured gems. One by one, each stone is hand set. Once set on the bottle, the prized design marks out the cartouche. This expert, diligent task of metalwork takes over fifty hours to finish.

Le Songe de la Reine

The special edition fragrance that comes with the design, Le Songe de la Reine, positions us before the gateway into the East. This Eau de Parfum starts on a fresh and radiant blend of mandarin and bergamot, unveiling the freshness and the excitement of fig notes in its heart, set on a woody foundation of sandalwood and cedar notes.

"This is a fragrance full of contrasts, wherein the woody notes, in their strength and sensuality, are confronted with the vegetal vitality of fig sap." as noted by Thierry Wasser, Guerlain House Perfumer.
