In the vein of the great artist Le Flacon aux Abeilles Couleur Bonheur, Guerlain chooses a collaboration with Maison Matisse.

Since it was established in 1828, Guerlain has commissioned artists to enhance their works. Since 2005, this relationship has grown stronger at Haute Parfumerie, where exceptional materials and artistic expertise collide. This connection can be seen in the L'Art & Matter or the numbered edition of opulent Exceptional Pieces.

In order to pass on his values, the perfumer has currently chosen to collaborate with the Matisse family, which Jean-Matheu Mattisse, a great-grandson of the great painter, founded in 2019.

Guerlain will make 2023 his Matisse year with extraordinary limited editions based on two of his paintings. An exceptional piece titled "Le Flacon aux Abeilles" is adorned by two patterns in the colors of happiness from Maison Matisse Edition, and the other, three new editions of the L'Art & La Matière collection.

Sensational Colours

Henri Matisse, a well-known 20th-century artist who lived from 1869 to 1954, discovered painting too late and defied historical norms. When he developed the method of slicing paper from thick sheets of gouache-colored paper, he once said, "There are flowers everywhere for anyone who wants to see them." The artist then arranges the patterns—leaves, flowers, and fruits—that come out of his scissors on the wall to create monumental compositions.

The mythical "Flacon aux Abeilles" is embellished with a decor taken from one of its most iconic paintings, "La Musique," (1939), to commemorate its 170th anniversary. Astrid de Chaillé, a craftswoman, embellishes fourteen distinctive pieces with vibrant color patterns.

Guerlain Perfumers created "Couleur Bonheur," a contemporary fruity chypre with fragrant colors as cheery as the artist's palette, for the occasion. This Maison Matisse Edition Bee Bottle, with only 14 pieces made, is the only one selling this priceless perfume extract.
