This is one of the truly great gentlemen's scents. It has all of the notes that I love--clary sage, carnation, cedar, leather and tonka--that are arranged in a way that is classic yet timeless. There is a clean element to this that has nothung to do with modern "out of the shower" fragrances. The drydown is the best part of this, I think. While it is timeless, I also love the true vintage aspect of this scent--if you look in old New Yorkers and Illustrated London News from the 30s, 40s and 50s, the ads are right there, in the iconic bottle. This has legs and I hope that it is never completely phased out as this truly represents what is best about the Dunhill brand. This set the bar very high and with the possible exeption of Edition, Dunhill has never bettered this.

Antique, spiced florals, woods, leather and herbs attempt to meld into a sophisticated eau de cologne, but in the end, the gamy aroma of an "oily scalp" appears most predominant.

I like it. It's a subtle version of a "spice bomb" I was reminded of the current formulation for Bijan for Men's openng spice. Bijan goes into a sandalwood drydown. Dunhill goes into a nice mix of leather and vetiver. Indeed, it's a classic structure that kin to 80's powerhouses... just more toned down. Simply a good cologne.

I knew I wanted a bottle of Dunhill for months before I actually shelled out the money for one, but I didn't know I was unwittingly searching for this scent all along. For me, this is the Mesopotamia, the fertile origin from which radiated and evolved all the great mens' fragrances after its inception so long ago. Like a genuine piece of antiquity, though it is less than eighty years old, I find it to be beyond criticism. It existed, left its mark, and will be fondly remembered in the annals of perfume history.
The way the fragrance industry is headed I am worried that we may never again see its equal.

Right from the beginning, I had a strong impression that I had encountered Dunhill for Men numerous times before. Indeed, the notes listed are so familiar to fragrances of a certain vintage, that it is quite easy to imagine just how they will perform. Beyond the slightly antiquated blending of lavender, lemon and clary sage, DFM begins to emit a polite potency and poise. It becomes more arid and bitter as time goes on, but the blending and subtlety remain a delight.

Despite being formulated as an EDC, its lifespan of about five hours, and its restrained projection are in keeping with this type of fragrance. The route that Dunhill for Men takes is certainly no great surprise, but its balance, quality, and effortless class certainly are.

This is a fine, classic scent. Light lemony notes mingle with hints of herbs from the clary sage. The florals are dusky and not sweet. The overall scent is refined and elegant. My slight reservation is with the orris note, which never is a favorite of mine. Here it is restrained, and gives a slightly fleshy - tangy - minty note. It adds a cool and distinctive character to the scent. The dry-down is only slightly powdery, and there is a hint of sheer woods and a trace of leather.
