Guerlain Mitsouko Limited Edition 2019 - Product Description Overview

1919, the year of Mitsouko's creation, exoticism and especially Japanism is very fashionable. The name of the fragrance is a Japanese name and was chosen in memory of the heroine of a successful novel from the time "The Battle" of Claude Farrere published in 1909. Mitsou in Japanese meaning "honeycomb". Mitsouko is a creation of Jacques Guerlain who uses for the first time in perfume the note peach and thus launches the Cyprus Fruits. This peach note is obtained via an aldehyde with a fruity smell. The top note is fresh and hesperidic, carried by the bergamot. The heart, floral and opulent blossoms on a bouquet of May rose and jasmine. The background, sensual and spicy amplifies the note of the wake of a woody note of vetiver.

Mitsouko fans include Serge Diaghilev, Charlie Chaplin, Ingrid Bergman, Wallis Simpson, Princess Diana and Ines de la Fressange. And when Rita Mitsouko chose their stage name it was partly in tribute to the scent of the same name.

The iconic bottle with its inverted heart shaped stopper was created in 1912 by Raymond Guerlain initially in Baccarat crystal for L'Heure Bleue.

For the 100 years of the fragrance, Guerlain makes a return to the sources and japonism through a journey in the world of calligraphy and gold leaf. The manufacture of gold leaf has been practiced for centuries in Kanazawa, Japan. It is in the Hakuichi workshop that we continue to hammer gold until you get perfect finesse. We begin by dissolving an ingot in a crucible with a very small amount of silver and copper, then heating the mixture up to 1300 degrees and poured into a mold. Once cooled, the ingot obtained is stretched more and more finely using a press to obtain a sheet between 0.03mm and 0.05mm. The stretched gold is placed between very strong sheets of washi paper and hammered many times until it reaches 0.0001mm thick. Only a few Masters of Art hold this know-how.

Each limited edition bottle of Mitsouko is uniquely adorned using the chirashi technique. The equivalent of 4 gold leaves is gently sprinkled by hand and 10 days are needed to make each piece. Then the artist Suitou Nakatsuka who takes charge of the decor made according to the techniques of ancestral calligraphy. She draws a branch of plum to symbolize the character of Mitsouko on which are laid red and white flowers.
